A Star Burner will not light, or the flame is lopsided. The star-shaped port geometry spreads flame further across the pan than a conventional ring, which also means an uneven burn is obvious early. Cause is the igniter electrode, a blocked port, or a burner cap sitting slightly proud of its seat — three repairs at three very different costs, so it gets diagnosed before anything is ordered.
ExtraLow will not hold a simmer. This one catches people out. ExtraLow does not run the burner at a low flame — it cycles the burner on and off to average a low heat. So when a simmer stops working the fault is usually in the valve or the control circuit, not in the burner itself.
