Common Frigidaire Microwave Faults We Repair
Most likely — the vent fan will not run, or runs constantly. Fan motor, the thermostat sensing heat from the cooktop below, or the control board. Because this unit is doing your kitchen’s extraction, cooking without it puts grease on every surface in the room.
Next most likely — it is completely dead. Usually the line fuse, and the fuse rarely fails alone: a door switch closing out of sequence shorts the circuit and takes it with it. Replacing only the fuse guarantees a return visit, so the switches get tested at the same time.
It runs but the food comes out cold. Magnetron, high-voltage diode or capacitor. The circuit holds a dangerous charge even unplugged, which is genuinely why this is not a do-it-yourself repair.
It starts then immediately stops. The interlock switches — several of them forming a safety chain. If one has failed the appliance is designed to refuse to run, which is correct behaviour rather than something to bypass.
Cooking smells hang around the kitchen. If the unit recirculates rather than venting outside, the charcoal filter behind the top grille is the only thing removing odour and it cannot be washed. Many owners have never opened that grille.
Least likely — the turntable will not turn. Usually the coupler under the tray rather than the motor beneath it, and the least expensive part in the appliance.
