A Panasonic Inverter Is Not Built Like Other Microwaves Inside
Most microwaves have one power level. When you select 50%, the magnetron runs flat out for a few seconds, switches off for a few seconds, and repeats — which is why food reheats hot at the edges and cold in the middle.
Panasonic’s inverter models genuinely reduce the power instead of pulsing it, using an inverter board where other machines use a heavy transformer. It cooks more evenly, and it means a technician who opens one expecting a transformer is looking at the wrong component.
Common Panasonic Microwave Faults We Repair
It runs, the turntable turns, and nothing heats. On an inverter model this points at the inverter board, the magnetron, or the high-voltage components between them. On a conventional Panasonic it points at the transformer instead. Establishing which machine you have is genuinely the first step, because the parts are not interchangeable.
It heats on high but low and medium settings no longer work properly. This is close to an inverter-specific symptom. On a pulsing microwave every setting is really full power in bursts, so partial failure is uncommon; on an inverter the board actually modulates output, and a board beginning to fail can lose the reduced levels while full power still works.
It is completely dead. Usually the line fuse, and the fuse rarely fails alone — a door switch closing out of sequence shorts the circuit and takes it with it. Replacing only the fuse guarantees a repeat visit, so the switches get tested at the same time.
It starts then stops immediately. The interlock switches. Several of them form a safety chain, and the appliance is designed to refuse to run if one has failed. That is correct behaviour, not something to defeat.
It sparks or arcs inside the cavity. Stop using it. Normally the waveguide cover has failed or the cavity coating has worn through. Both are repairable, but running it in that state destroys the magnetron and turns a modest job into an expensive one.
The turntable will not turn. Usually the coupler under the glass tray rather than the motor beneath it — the least expensive part in the appliance and worth fixing on any unit.

We will be straight about this, because microwaves are the appliance where we most often talk people out of a repair. A basic countertop unit that cost under two hundred dollars is not worth a service call plus a magnetron, and we would rather say so on the phone than take the visit fee to reach the same conclusion.
Two things change that. The first is a built-in installation — a Panasonic fitted into a cabinet with a trim kit is not a like-for-like swap, because trim kits and apertures change between generations. The second is a higher-specification inverter model, where the appliance cost enough that a board or a door switch is comfortably worth doing.
It is also worth knowing that the fault matters as much as the machine. A line fuse, a door switch, an interlock or a turntable coupler is inexpensive enough to be worth repairing on almost any unit. A magnetron on a cheap countertop model usually is not.
