Sub-Zero Refrigerator Repair

One compartment is warm and the other is perfectly cold. This is the fault most specific to Sub-Zero and the one owners misread most often. Dual Refrigeration runs the fresh-food and freezer sections as two entirely separate sealed systems — two compressors, two evaporators, no shared air. When one side drifts and the other holds, that is not a failing refrigerator. It is one of two systems needing attention, and the diagnosis is narrowed before a panel comes off.

It is running constantly and never cycles off. On a Sub-Zero the first thing to check is the condenser behind the upper grille. It sits where kitchen dust and pet hair collect, and a blocked condenser makes the unit work continuously to hold the same temperature. Left alone it does years of compressor wear in months — and cleaning it is a maintenance job, not a repair.

Frost is building up, or ice keeps returning after you clear it. Defrost heater, defrost thermostat, or a door that has stopped sealing. Ice back within a month of a manual defrost points squarely at the heater circuit rather than anything you did wrong.

The door no longer pulls itself shut, or you have stopped hearing it seal. Sub-Zero doors close against a magnetic gasket and carry heavy custom cabinetry panels, so hinge and gasket wear shows up here before anywhere else. A door standing a few millimetres proud is enough to cause the frost problem above, and it is one of the least expensive faults on this list.

The ice maker has stopped, or the ice has gone cloudy and hollow. Inlet valve, the supply line, or the fill tube frozen over. On the dedicated clear-ice machines the harvest cycle and the water pump are the usual suspects. Hard water across much of the GTA makes the valve the most common answer.

A wine storage zone has drifted off its set point. These are built to hold a temperature steadily rather than simply get cold, and a zone sitting two or three degrees out will spoil a cellar quietly over months. Usually a sensor, a damper or a fan — rarely the sealed system.

There is water under the crisper or on the floor. Almost always a blocked defrost drain and a straightforward clear. Worth booking before it reaches the flooring, which is a more expensive problem than the fridge.
