Ventilation matters more in a small space than a large one. A hood that has lost half its extraction in an open-plan condo means cooking smells through the whole unit and, often enough, a smoke alarm going off over a hot pan.
Common Bosch Rangehood Faults We Repair
Extraction has faded but the fan still sounds normal. Filters first. Bosch metal mesh filters go in the dishwasher and a great many have never been washed. If they are clean, the duct run is next and the blower after that.
It is recirculating and the kitchen still smells. Many Bosch hoods in condos vent back into the room because there is no exterior duct, and in that mode a charcoal filter is the only thing removing odour. It cannot be washed — it is replace-only, typically annually, and a lot of owners do not know it exists.
The touch or push controls have stopped responding. Control panel or board. Steam and heat rising directly onto the underside of a hood are hard on electronics, and a panel that needs a firm press today will be dead in a few months.
The lights work but the fan does not, or the reverse. They run on separate circuits through the same control, so one working while the other does not points at the control rather than the wiring.
The blower has become loud or is vibrating. Motor bearings, an unbalanced impeller, or grease built up on the fan wheel. On an insert or ceiling-mounted unit this is worth catching early, because access gets more involved the longer it is left.
The hood runs on its own after cooking. Some Bosch models continue at low speed to clear residual moisture and then stop. If yours keeps running indefinitely, that is a sensor or a control fault rather than the feature.

Bosch Rangehood Repair in the GTA: Recirculating Hoods and the Filter Nobody Changes
A large share of the Bosch hoods we attend in Toronto are recirculating rather than ducted, because a condo has nowhere to vent to. That single fact explains most of the complaints we hear about them.
In recirculating mode the metal mesh filters catch grease and a charcoal filter removes odour. The mesh filters are washable and most owners eventually work that out. The charcoal filter is not — it has to be replaced, roughly once a year, and it is hidden behind the mesh where nobody looks. A hood with a saturated charcoal filter extracts perfectly well and does nothing whatsoever about smell, which is exactly the complaint people describe.
Where extraction genuinely has weakened, the duct is usually more to blame than the fan. Flexible ducting crushed behind a cabinet or run too far with too many bends will defeat a healthy blower, and replacing the motor changes nothing at all.
Blower motors and impellers, filters, control panels and boards, lighting and drivers, and dampers are all replaceable through BSH. Nothing starts until you approve the price, and approving it makes the diagnostic free.
