Fisher & Paykel sells both vented and condensing dryers, and they fail in entirely different ways. A vented machine is a heater, a fan and a drum. A condensing one has a heat exchanger and a water path. Establishing which you have takes a moment and changes everything that follows.
Common Fisher & Paykel Dryer Faults We Repair
It tumbles but produces no heat (vented models). Heating element, thermal fuse or thermostat. The half that matters is why: a thermal fuse blows because airflow was restricted, never on its own, so the duct gets checked as part of the job.
Cycles have got much longer on a condensing model. The heat exchanger clogging with fine lint, or its secondary filter. Cleaning it can restore a machine that seemed to be failing — and it is behind a panel most owners have never opened.
It shuts off early convinced the load is dry. Moisture sensor. The bars in the drum read conductivity, and fabric-softener residue insulates them until the machine believes everything is finished. Often a clean rather than a part.
There is water on the floor under a condensing model. The condensate path — tank, seal, pump or drain hose. On a condensing dryer there is always water inside the machine, so a leak here is entirely ordinary rather than odd.
There is a rumble or squeal that keeps worsening. Drum rollers, the idler pulley or the belt. Caught early it is routine; run long enough, a snapped belt can damage the drum bearing.
It will not start. Door switch, thermal fuse or the control board. Door switch first — most common and least expensive.
