The fan hums but barely turns. The motor’s start capacitor rather than the motor itself. A blower that eventually gets going but has lost its initial push is pointing at the capacitor, which costs a fraction of a blower assembly.
Extraction has faded and the filters are clean. Look at the duct run. Flexible ducting that has sagged, been crushed behind a cabinet during a renovation, or runs too far with too many bends will defeat a healthy fan, and no motor replacement fixes a duct problem.
The light works but the fan does not, or the reverse. They run on separate circuits through the same switch bank, so one working while the other does not narrows the fault to the switch rather than the wiring.
The lamp keeps failing. Usually heat rather than the bulbs. A lamp directly above a hard-used burner cooks its own socket, and once that is damaged replacements fail within weeks. The socket is the repair.
The filters are clean but the kitchen still smells. On a recirculating installation the charcoal filter is the only thing removing odour, and unlike the metal mesh it cannot be washed — it has to be replaced.
