Extraction has weakened. Blower motor losing power, a duct run that has partly blocked, or baffle filters past the point where cleaning helps. Airflow gets measured before anyone condemns a motor — the motor is the expensive answer and often the wrong one.

It has become noisy, or it vibrates. Worn motor bearing or an impeller out of balance. Worth catching early: a vibrating blower works its own mounting loose over time, and then the repair is considerably bigger than a bearing.

Only one speed works. Viking’s Vari-Speed controls run the blower through a range rather than fixed steps. When you lose the middle of that range it is usually the control board rather than the motor, which is the cheaper of the two.

The lights are out. Lamps, transformer, or the board that runs both lighting and fan speed. Worth diagnosing rather than replacing bulbs repeatedly.

It runs constantly or comes on by itself. Control board or a failed switch. Book it rather than living with it — a blower running unattended just wears out sooner.

Grease is getting past the baffles. Usually the baffles themselves or one seated wrong. Cheap to put right, and worth doing before it reaches the blower housing where cleaning becomes a much bigger job.
