A dryer that runs but never heats draws power for the whole cycle and returns damp laundry. The heating circuit on a GE is a small set of inexpensive parts — and the reason one of them failed is nearly always airflow rather than age.

The important half of the diagnosis is why: a thermal fuse blows because airflow was restricted, never on its own. It shuts off after a few minutes claiming the load is dry. The moisture sensor bars in the drum read conductivity, and fabric-softener residue insulates them until the machine believes the load is finished. Frequently a clean rather than a part.
There is a rhythmic thump or a rising squeal. Drum rollers, the idler pulley or the belt. Caught early it is routine; left running, a snapped belt can damage the drum bearing.
The drum will not turn but you can hear the motor. Broken belt or a seized roller. The motor is fine — it is driving something that will not move.
It is completely dead. Door switch, thermal fuse or the control board. On a gas GE the igniter and flame sensor come into it too. Door switch first — most common, least expensive.
