Drainage failure is a common fault across GE top-load and front-load washer models. When standing water remains in the drum or tub after a completed cycle, the cause is usually a blocked pump filter, a failed drain pump motor, or a kinked drain hose. Left unresolved, standing water encourages odour and places repeated strain on the drain system.

Lid switch failure is a fault specific to GE top-load washers. The lid switch prevents the drum from spinning when the lid is open, and when it fails the machine fills normally but refuses to agitate or spin. This is a well-understood fault with a straightforward replacement part.

Drum bearing wear is a progressive fault on GE front-load models. A grinding or rumbling noise during the spin cycle that worsens over time is the clearest indicator. Addressing it before the bearing fails completely prevents the wear from spreading to the drum shaft and outer tub.

Control board failures affect GE washers with electronic control systems. When the control panel becomes unresponsive, error codes appear that cannot be cleared, or the machine behaves erratically during a cycle, the control board usually needs to be replaced.

Excessive vibration during the spin cycle on GE front-load models often points to worn shock absorbers, a failing drum bearing, or a levelling issue. Confirming the actual cause before ordering parts avoids unnecessary replacements.

Water inlet valve problems result in the machine filling too slowly or not filling at all. A failed solenoid inside the valve or blocked mesh screens are the most common causes, and both require the valve to be replaced to restore normal fill performance.
