Water and ice have slowed or stopped, or the display shows a filter warning. Start with the filter. GE’s RPWFE reads an RFID chip and will report a fault with an aftermarket cartridge or a filter past its life. If a genuine, current filter does not resolve it, the inlet valve or the dispenser control is next.

The fridge is warm while the freezer stays cold. On models with TwinChill there are two evaporators running two separate climates, so this points cleanly at the fresh-food side — its fan, its damper, or its defrost circuit — rather than at anything shared. That narrows the job before a panel comes off.

Frost keeps building on the freezer back wall. Defrost heater, defrost thermostat, or the control board that decides when to run a cycle. Ice returning within weeks of a manual defrost points squarely at that circuit.

The ice maker has stopped or is producing hollow cubes. Usually low water pressure at the inlet valve or a partially frozen fill tube rather than the ice maker itself. Replacing the assembly when the valve was at fault is an expensive way to not fix it.

It runs constantly and never cycles off. Condenser thick with dust, a failing condenser fan, or a door seal letting warm air in. Book it early — a compressor that never rests wears out years ahead of schedule.

Water is pooling under the crisper or on the floor. Almost always a blocked defrost drain and a straightforward clear. Worth doing before it reaches the flooring.
