It runs, but it is not pulling. Could be the blower motor losing power, a duct run that has partially blocked, or filters that are past the point where cleaning helps. A technician measures airflow before condemning the motor, because the motor is the expensive answer and often the wrong one.

It has become loud, or it vibrates. Usually a worn motor bearing or an impeller that has gone out of balance. Worth booking early — a vibrating blower works its own mounting loose, and then you are replacing more than a bearing.

The controls have stopped responding. On Wolf hoods one board runs both fan speed and lighting. So a hood that will not change speed and has also lost its lights is usually one fault, not two, and that is good news for the repair cost.

The lights are out. Lamps, the transformer, or the board. Worth diagnosing properly rather than buying bulbs three times.

It will not switch off, or runs on its own. Typically a control board or a failed switch. Book it rather than living with it — a blower running unattended simply wears out sooner.

A downdraft will not rise or lower. Wolf’s downdraft units use a lift motor and drive assembly specific to the brand. When one sticks partway, stop operating it; forcing the mechanism turns a motor replacement into a much larger job.

Grease is getting past the filters. Often the filters themselves, sometimes a baffle seated wrong. Cheap to put right, and worth doing before it reaches the blower housing.
