It hums at the start of a cycle then stops. Something hard has jammed the disposer — a fruit stone, a shard of glass, a fragment of bone. The motor is stalling against it rather than failing, and clearing the obstruction is usually the whole repair.

Water is sitting in the bottom at the end of a cycle. Drain pump, the disposer, or a kinked hose behind the cabinet. This is the most common dishwasher call we take on any brand and rarely the most expensive.

The load comes out wet even on the drying setting. GE’s Dry Boost uses a fan to push moist air out at the end rather than relying on a hot element alone, so when the fan or its control fails you get a full load of damp dishes with no obvious error. That fan is a serviceable part.

Bottles and tall glasses come out dirty inside. On models with dedicated bottle jets in the upper rack, those jets block with debris. The rest of the load washes perfectly, which is what makes the pattern diagnostic.

It will not start. Door latch switch, control board, or power at the outlet. The latch is checked first because it is both the most likely and the cheapest.

There is water on the floor. Door seal, a hose connection, or the pump housing. On a built-in unit a slow leak soaks cabinetry and subfloor for weeks before anything shows, which is why this one is worth booking rather than watching.
