It is not holding temperature. Evaporator fan, a defrost circuit that has stopped cycling, or a thermistor feeding the board a bad reading. We test the defrost system first, because a failed defrost heater looks exactly like a dying compressor from the outside and costs a small fraction as much to put right.

The fridge is fine and the freezer is not, or the other way round. JennAir’s built-in columns run as separate appliances, and even the French door models manage the two compartments independently. One side holding and one drifting narrows the diagnosis considerably before a panel comes off.

Frost keeps returning after you clear it. Defrost heater, defrost thermostat, or a door seal that has stopped pulling closed. Ice back within a month of a manual defrost points squarely at the heater circuit.

It runs constantly and never cycles off. A condenser thick with dust, a failing condenser fan, or warm air getting past a seal. Worth booking early — a compressor that never rests does years of wear in a matter of months.

Water is pooling under the crisper or on the floor. Almost always a blocked defrost drain, and a straightforward clear. Left alone it finds the flooring eventually, and that is a more expensive problem than the fridge.

Ice or water dispensing has stopped. Inlet valve, the supply line, or the dispenser control. In the harder-water parts of the GTA the valve is usually the answer.
