Whether an LG Microwave Is Worth Repairing Depends On How It Is Mounted

Common LG Microwave Faults We Repair
It runs but the food comes out cold. Magnetron, high-voltage diode or capacitor. On LG’s inverter models the power supply is a different design from a conventional transformer unit, which changes the part but not the principle — and it is a sealed high-voltage circuit that holds a dangerous charge even unplugged.
It is completely dead. Very often the line fuse, and the fuse rarely fails alone — a door switch closing out of sequence shorts the circuit and takes it with it. Replacing only the fuse guarantees a return visit, so the switches get tested at the same time.
It starts then immediately stops. The interlock switches. Several of them, forming a safety chain, and the appliance is designed to refuse to run if one has failed. That is correct behaviour, not something to defeat.
The vent fan runs constantly or not at all. On an over-the-range LG the microwave is also your range hood, so this is a ventilation fault as much as a microwave one. Usually the motor, the thermostat sensing heat from the cooktop below, or the board.
Cooking smells linger no matter how hard the fan runs. If the unit recirculates rather than venting outside, the charcoal filter behind the top grille is the only thing removing odour and it cannot be washed. Many owners have never opened that grille.
The turntable will not turn. Usually the coupler under the tray rather than the motor beneath it — the least expensive part in the appliance.
