Nothing is cooling and the compressor is silent or clicking. This is the fault owners are most anxious about, and it deserves a straight answer. LG’s linear compressor is a genuinely different design — a linear piston rather than a rotary crank — and failures on certain mid-2010s units are well documented. The fridge is warm but the freezer is fine. Far more common than a compressor fault, and much cheaper. Evaporator fan, a defrost circuit that has stopped cycling, or a damper stuck closed. Cold air is made in the freezer and moved across, so when that transfer stops the freezer carries on unaffected.
Frost keeps building up inside. Defrost heater, defrost sensor, or a door that has stopped sealing. On French door models the left door carries the seal strip, and a worn strip lets warm air in along the whole centre join.
The ice maker has stopped, or Craft Ice is not producing. Inlet valve, the fill tube frozen over, or the ice maker assembly itself. On models with the round-ice maker there is a second unit in the freezer drawer, so one can fail while the other keeps working — worth knowing before anyone condemns the whole system.
The InstaView panel will not light when you knock. The knock sensor or its board. The fridge is unaffected and still cooling, which is worth saying plainly — this is a convenience fault, not a refrigeration one.
Water is pooling under the crisper or on the floor. Almost always a blocked defrost drain and a straightforward clear. Worth booking before it reaches the flooring.
