Drainage failure is one of the most commonly reported faults in AEG dishwashers. When the machine finishes a cycle but leaves standing water in the bottom of the tub, the cause is usually a blocked drain pump, a kinked drain hose, or a faulty drain pump motor. Water left sitting inside the unit encourages odour and can cause damage to internal components over time.

Spray arm blockages reduce cleaning performance noticeably. AEG dishwashers use multiple spray arms to distribute water across the load, and when the small nozzles become blocked with mineral deposits or food debris, certain areas of the wash are left undertreated. Sometimes cleaning the arms resolves it, but if the wash pump is underperforming, the fault is mechanical rather than a simple blockage.

Door latch failures prevent the machine from starting or cause it to stop mid-cycle. AEG integrated and freestanding dishwashers rely on a properly functioning door latch and latch sensor, and when either component fails, the machine behaves as though the door is open and will not proceed through a cycle.

Wash cycle faults, including programmes that run far longer than expected or stop partway through, are often caused by a faulty heating element or a failed temperature sensor. The machine holds the cycle open because it cannot confirm the water has reached the required temperature, which is a safety function that only clears when the underlying component is replaced.

Unusual noises during the wash cycle, such as grinding or rattling, can indicate that a component has come loose inside the cavity, or that the wash pump is struggling with a blockage or bearing wear. Both situations need attention before they develop into a more involved fault.

Error codes on the AEG dishwasher display provide specific diagnostic information, but reading them correctly requires an understanding of how the AEG control system works.
