The hood no longer responds to the hob. On Hob2Hood installations the link is infrared between the cooktop and the extractor. Grease on the sensor window, or a receiver that has failed, breaks the connection — the hood still works on its manual controls, so the fault presents as a lost feature rather than a dead appliance.
Extraction has faded but the fan sounds normal. Filters first — AEG metal mesh filters go in the dishwasher and a great many have never been washed. After that, grease loading the blower wheel, which kills efficiency long before the motor complains.
It is recirculating and the kitchen still smells. Where there is no exterior duct, a charcoal filter is the only thing removing odour. It cannot be washed, it needs replacing roughly annually, and it hides behind the mesh filters where nobody looks.
The touch controls have stopped responding. Control panel or board. Steam and heat rising onto the underside of a hood are hard on electronics, and a panel needing a firm press today will be dead within months.
The blower has become loud or vibrates. Motor bearings or an unbalanced impeller. On island and integrated units this is worth catching early, because access gets more involved the longer it is left.
The lighting has stopped. Lamps, the driver, or the switching. AEG hoods use integrated lighting rather than a socketed bulb, so it is a component replacement rather than something to swap yourself.

AEG Rangehood Repair in the GTA: When the Hob Controls the Hood
Hob2Hood is unusual enough that it is worth explaining before anything else. On these installations the cooktop communicates with the extractor by infrared: turn a zone up and the hood speeds up on its own, switch the hob off and the hood runs on for a while and then stops.
It is genuinely useful and it produces two calls that are not faults — a hood that starts by itself, and a hood that keeps running after cooking. Both are the system working. What is a fault is the link failing, usually because grease has covered the sensor window on the hob or the receiver in the hood has died. The hood still works manually, so nothing is lost while the part is sourced.
Everything else is conventional. Blower motors and impellers, filters, control panels, lighting and drivers are all replaceable, and the mesh filters are washable and should be washed far more often than they are.
Have the model and PNC number ready. AEG appliances carry a PNC — a product number code — on the rating plate alongside the model. It identifies the exact build, and on a brand with limited Canadian distribution that is what lets us check part availability before you commit to anything.
