The ComfortLift basket will not raise or lower. AEG is the only brand that lifts the lower basket to counter height, and the mechanism is a scissor frame with a drive and guide rails. When it sticks halfway or refuses to descend, the fault is in that assembly rather than in the dishwasher — the machine will still wash perfectly while the lift is dead.

Water is sitting in the bottom of the tub. Drain pump, the filter assembly in the tub floor, or the check valve. AEG filters twist out and rinse under a tap, and a great many have never been removed since installation.

It has stopped mid-cycle and the pump is running continuously. An anti-flood float in the base pan has detected water and shut the machine down to protect your floor. That is correct behaviour — but something above it is leaking, and draining the pan without finding the leak simply resets the clock.

The door falls open instead of holding position. Door springs or the cables that run to them. On an integrated machine carrying a heavy custom door front this happens sooner, and left alone it will damage the hinge.

Dishes come out gritty or with white film. Spray arms blocked, filter overdue a clean, or hard-water scale. Toronto water is hard enough that scale is a genuine factor, and rinse aid matters more on a European machine than most owners expect.

It will not start and the display is dark. Door latch, the control board, or power at the outlet. The latch is checked first — most common and least expensive.
