The important part is what caused it: a thermal fuse does not fail on its own, it blows because airflow was restricted. Replacing the fuse without clearing the vent means it blows again, so we check the duct as part of the job.
Cycles are taking two or three times as long as they used to. Almost always restricted venting rather than a failing dryer. A blocked duct is also a genuine fire risk, which is why this one is worth booking rather than tolerating.
It stops after a few minutes and says the load is dry. Moisture sensor. The bars inside the drum read conductivity, and fabric softener residue insulates them until the dryer believes everything is dry within minutes. Sometimes a clean, sometimes the sensor.
There is a loud rumble, squeal or thump while it turns. Drum rollers, the idler pulley or the belt. Caught early it is a straightforward parts job; ignored, a failed belt can damage the drum bearing and turn a small repair into a large one.
The drum will not turn but the motor hums. Broken belt or a seized roller. The motor is usually fine — it is trying to drive something that will not move.
It will not start at all. Door switch, thermal fuse or the control board. The door switch is checked first because it is the most common and the least expensive.
