It will not drain, and there is water sitting in the drum. Nine times in ten this is the pump filter behind the small access panel at the bottom front. Coins, buttons and lint collect there and Samsung expects you to clear it periodically — most owners have never been told. If the filter is clear, the pump itself or the drain hose is next.

It will not spin, or stops mid-cycle with the drum full. Usually the machine detecting an unbalanced load and refusing to accelerate. Samsung’s VRT system is what keeps these quiet at high spin speeds, and when the suspension rods behind it wear, the drum moves more than the sensors allow. Left alone it walks across the floor.

The door will not unlock at the end of a cycle. Door lock assembly or the board driving it. It is one of the cheapest parts on the machine and one of the most disruptive when it fails, because your laundry is sealed inside.

It is leaking from the front. Door gasket, and on front-loaders it is nearly always the bottom of the gasket where water and detergent sit. Worth catching early — a gasket leak finds the subfloor long before you notice a puddle.
